Between the 12th and the 15th of March 2009, The National Book Centre of the Romanian Cultural Institute attended the Leipzig Book Fair with a stand of its own.
After attending the book fair in Vienna in November 2008, it was the second time that The National Book Centre of the Romanian Cultural Institute attended an international book fair with a stand of its own, the surface rented being of 9 m2.
The stand displayed a selection of the volumes, albumes and magazines that have been published so far through our financing programmes (Translation and Publication Support, 20 Romanian Authors and Publishing Romania), a selection of the albums published by the RCI publishing house, as well as brochures and promotional materials of the programmes and projects carried by the Romanian Cultural Institute.
The National Book Centre also supported the presence of two Romanian authors at the international reading events organised at the fair, entitled Leipzig liest (Leipzig reads): writer Petru Cimpoeşu read an excerpt from Christina Domestica şi vânătorii de suflete whereas writer Radu Paraschivescu read an excerpt from his collection of humorous essays entitled Ghidul nesimţitului. The reading in German and the mediation belonged to Ernest Wichner (writer, translator, director of Literaturhaus Berlin).
The enthusiastic audience at the readings and the great number of visitors at the stand has proven once again the interest of the German-speaking public for the Romanian cultural phenomenon.
